Edna Jones Padgett

Edna Jones Padgett, age 87, of Taylorsville left this world on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Edna was the daughter of the late Ragan & Minnie Carroll Jones of Spruce Pine, NC. Edna was also preceded in death by her husbands David I. Seelbinder & Rae. C. Padgett; son Douglas N. Seelbinder; and three siblings Jewell Davis, George Jones, & R.B. Jones.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son David R. Seelbinder & wife Lois, of Newport, TN; daughters Laura S. Wahlers & husband Dennis, of Taylorsville, NC and Sarah A. Seelbinder, of Durham, NC; sister Wilma J. King, of Littlestown, PA; brother Billy V. Jones, of Spruce Pine, NC; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Edna grew up on Yancy County, NC, attending Micaville High School. After graduation she obtained a degree in Nursing working in North Carolina and Florida where she lived twenty-five years, before returning to her beloved mountains.

Always active in her local Baptist Church, she began teaching young children while in her twenties, and taught all ages at some point over the years. As recently as September 2018 Edna was leading an adult coed Bible class at First Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC. Besides teaching she had a deep love for Missions and church drama. Her hobbies included gardening, painting, community theatre, and writing.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm at First Baptist Church. The funeral service is to follow at 6:30 pm. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell County, NC.
