Jerry Kenneth Reitzel

Jerry Kenneth Reitzel, age 81, of Taylorsville passed away at Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, July 27, 2018. He was born to the late Charles Franklin and Mary Ethel Echard Reitzel on September 23, 1936 in Catawba County. Jerry served in the North Carolina National Guard Army Reserves as a Staff Sergeant in the Vietnam Era. He was of the Lutheran Faith and in his spare time enjoyed watching Nascar, going to flea markets, and spending a week at a time at the coast fishing.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by one sister; Shirley Echard, one niece; Tammy Burns, and one son; Dennis Reitzel.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 44 years; Jewell Berry Reitzel, one daughter; Donna Hefner Ford and husband Jeff, two step daughters; Selina Pyatte and Jane Duane of Hickory, one step son; David Duane and wife Shelia of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, five grandchildren; Kelli Peterson, Sherri Helms, Tyler Herman, Sharon Lingerfelt, Tracy Miller, twelve great grandchildren, one brother; Charles Allen Reitzel, and five nephews.
The visitation will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Alexander Funeral Service from 12:30 – 2:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Sammy Kiser. Inurnment will be kept with his daughter.
Military rites will be provided by Disabled Veterans post 84 of Taylorsville and post 6 of Hudson.
