Loid "Silas" Johnson

March 23, 1936 - January 13, 2022

Mr. Loid Silas Johnson, age 85 of Wilkesboro passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center. Silas was born March 23, 1936 in Wilkes County to James Ernest and Mattie Benge Johnson. In Silas' younger days, he was a moonshiner. Later, he logged and cut wood for a living. As a hobby, he collected antique cars. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bessie Griffin Johnson; one son Loyd "Kenny" Johnson; two son-in-laws Richard "Bo" Griffith and Ira David Roberts; one sister Lucille Johnson; five brothers Floyd Paul Johnson (twin brother), Vestal Johnson, Junior Johnson, Warner Johnson, and Chester Johnson. Three brother-in-laws Mitchell Johnson, RC Johnson and Bruce Haynes. Two sister-in-laws Ethel Parker and Pauline Love. Those left to cherish his memories are Sandy Mahaffey (significant other); four daughters Sandra Roberts, Sabrina Griffith, Martha Barker, and Wadie Sloop (Ricky); two sons Radford Johnson (Tonya), and Sammy Johnson (fiancée Sheila); ten grandchildren Jeremy Griffith, Jamie Griffith (Chris), Jennifer Griffith, Savannah Johnson, Brooke Mitchell (Isaiah), Tori Johnson, Joseph Barker, Kelsey Sloop, Savanna Aldred and Jenna Aldred. Four great grandchildren Avery, Emma, Claire, and Clark Mitchell. Five sisters Doris Johnson, Mozelle Johnson, Louise Haynes, Shirley Church (Rex), and Frances Moretz (Alfred); Four brothers Phillip Johnson (Norma), Roby Johnson (Julene), Ray Johnson (Judy), and Archie Johnson (Wanda). Visitation for Mr. Johnson will be conducted at Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church (2446 Fishing Creek Arbor Road, Wilkesboro, NC 28697) on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 12:30 pm until 2:15 pm with the funeral service following at 2:30 pm. Rev. David Welborn, Rev. Larry Adams, and Rev. Paul Siceloff will officate. Burial will be in the Johnson Family Cemetery at 2794 Mt. Sinai Road, Wilkesboro, NC 28697. Pallbearers will be Isaiah Mitchell, Ricky Sloop, Denny Bauguss, Barry Haynes, Chris Johnson Kenneth Johnson, and Jeremy Griffith.
