Robert "Bob" J. Connell

Robert “Bob” J. Connell, age 94, of Taylorsville took his final journey home to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at his residence. He entered into life on September 29, 1923, the son of the late William and Mary Helms Connell. Before retirement, he worked in the furniture industry for many years. He was a WWII veteran and honorably served our country in the US Army for seven years. Bob was a very active member at Union Grove Christian Church, where he was the guitarist and still played until he was 92 years old. He loved to travel with Southern Gospel groups, spreading the word of God through song. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, & friend and loved to eat. He dearly loved his family and church family, but above all he loved the Lord. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by thirteen brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 30 years, Dorthey Loudermilt Connell of the home; children: Roger Connell (Pat) of Landis; Shelle Alsip (Jim) of Fernley, NV; Robert Connell (Jean), & David Connell (Zelda) both of Hartsville, SC; step-children: Jimmy Bentley of Hickory & Danny Bentley (Pam) of Claremont; Juanita Deal of Conover; and Sheila Bailey of Nebo; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; along with a numerous number of nieces and nephews.


The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Union Grove Christian Church and the funeral service will follow at 4:00 pm with the Rev. Allen Lunsford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be presented.
