Roy Chapman Rogers

Roy Chapman “Little Roy” Rogers, 77, of Taylorsville, died peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2017. Roy was born May 18, 1940, in Alexander County, the son of the late D. Roy Rogers and Gussie C. Rogers. After graduation from Taylorsville High School in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea, Puerto Rico and San Antonio. He was a representative for Durham State Capital before starting a second career as poultry and cattle farmer, which he loved. He often stated that he would not change jobs with anybody. Roy was a member of Little River Baptist Church and the Adult Men’s Sunday School class. He was a member of the American Legion Post 170 serving as Post Chaplain. He loved carpentry, old cars, and cooking for his family and friends. He enjoyed “vacationing” at the Auto Fair in Charlotte. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by sisters Margaret R. Robinette, Rose R. Bolick, and brother D. Wayne Rogers, sister-in-law Joyce A. Rogers, brother in-laws James B. Robinette, Cloyd S. Bolick, Cletus A. Fox and former wife Brenda White Rogers.

Roy is survived by sisters Katherine R. Fox, and Joann R. Kerley and husband Raymond all of Taylorsville, NC. Brothers James K. Rogers of Knoxville, TN and Luke Rogers and wife Estelle of Taylorsville. Sister in law Clara Y. Rogers of Statesville. A very special friend, Vernell Sharpe and her family. Noah Hubbard of Taylorsville, his adopted grandson. Nine nieces, nine nephews and their ninety-five spouses, children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at Little River Baptist Church Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Jeff Chapman, Rev. Mark Robinette, and Rev. Phil Jolly officiating. The body will lie- in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the DAV Chapter 84 of Taylorsville and Chapter 6 of Hudson. Roy’s nephews will serve as pallbearers and his nieces will serve as flower girls. Honorary pallbearers are Dale Lands, Darren Rogers, Rick Brown, Ray Walker, Tommy Walker, Michael Ferguson, Tony Ferguson, Richard Mash, Shaun Brown, Danny Bumgarner, Brandon Bumgarner, Donnie Watts, David Robinette, and Mark Robinette.

Memorials may be made to the Little River Ruritan Club or Alexander American Legion Post 170 baseball team.
