Arthur “David” Dawson, born on March 7, 1955, in Henderson City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home in Alexander County on May 26, 2025. He was a devoted correctional officer at Alexander Correctional Center, a role he embraced with dedication and integrity throughout his career.
David will be remembered for his deep love for his family, particularly the joyful moments spent with his grandchildren. He took immense pride in his family, cherishing every opportunity to engage with them. His hobbies reflected his zest for life; he enjoyed watching television, especially rooting for the UNC Tarheels, as well as fishing and spending time outdoors, which brought him great happiness.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann Craig Dawson, and their children: Matthew David Dawson (Melissa), Andrew Thomas Dawson (Sarah), and Laura Marie Dawson along with her partner Justin. David's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Micah, Connor, Layla, Scott, and Hannah. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Jackie Raines, Ellie Woodlief, and Betty Brantley, and a special friend, Linda Reid.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas and Edna Clark Dawson, and his siblings: Mavis and Debra Dawson, Robert Dawson, and an infant brother, Thomas Dawson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Oxford Memorial Baptist Church located at 2850 Old Nc 90 Road, Township of Taylorsville, NC from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church at 3:30 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Neal Walker will officiate. Chad Craig, James Craig, Justin Craig, Jeff Mace, Nathan Mace, Stephen Mace, Jonathan Privette, and Jude Privette will serve as pallbearers.

David's memory will be cherished, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
