Barry Clark Shade

Barry Clark Shade, age 80, of Taylorsville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Barry was born on December 9, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio to Robert Clark and Betty June (Shay) Shade. He graduated from Oakwood High School and attended art school at The Dayton Art Institute, where he met his first wife, Joan Ann (Sperry) Shade with whom he had three children. While in Dayton he worked for the family business, Shay Insurance Agency.

In the 1990s, Barry moved to North Carolina, where he remained for the rest of his life, living close to his three daughters. He spent his final three years at Autumn Care of Statesville, where he became a favorite among both staff and fellow residents.

Barry had a wonderful sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. He was a lifelong lover of music and art and remained an artist to the very end – most recently winning the pumpkin painting contest at Autumn Care in October. He had a deep appreciation for the 1950’s and enjoyed restoring old cars. A passionate collector of antiques, visiting Barry’s home was like stepping into a museum filled with history and stories.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Brad Shade. He is survived by his children, Jane Shade, Becky Honious (Jeff) and Suzi Kirby (Gregg); five grandchildren, Aliyah Honious, Marlee Honious, Sienna Duys, Rowen Duys and Cullen Kirby; and his great-grandson, Aiden Duckett.

A visitation honoring Barry’s life will be held Saturday January 3, 2026 at Alexander Funeral Service from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with a memorial service to follow in the Alexander Funeral Service chapel at 1:00 pm. Rhett Miller will officiate. Inurnment will be with the family.
