Bera Lucille Dagenhart Stevenson, age 98, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Alexander County on Monday, September 15, 2025. Born on Friday, June 3, 1927, in Iredell County, Bera lived a life filled with love, laughter, and creativity, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Bera’s sense of humor was truly remarkable, a gift she shared generously with her family and friends. She had an innate ability to bring joy and light to every gathering, embodying the spirit of warmth and togetherness. Her family was her heart; she always loved spending time with them, cherishing every moment, particularly the countless hours spent playing games. These were not just simple pastimes but rather the threads that wove a tapestry of beautiful memories that her loved ones will carry with them forever.
Bera found great joy in painting and expressed herself vividly through her art. Gardening was another passion of hers where she nurtured not just her plants but also her love for nature's beauty. Her creativity extended beyond her hobbies and into her role in her community, where she gave of herself selflessly. Bera was a member of Liledoun Road Church of Christ, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and touched many lives. She also attended East Taylorsville Baptist Church. She held the honor of being the past President of the Extension of Homemakers as well as holding several other offices. Bera was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 10,000.
Bera is survived by her beloved son Darrell Lynn Stevenson, Sr. (Gina), along with her grandchildren: Matt Stevenson (Shae), Greg Stevenson (Michelle), Kristina Miller, Lynn Stevenson (Tiffany), and Zachary Stevenson (Nikki). Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Miller, Christian Miller (Tanisha), Jonlyn Miller, Cole Herman (Harley), Ahna Stevenson, Alana Stevenson, Braxton Stevenson, Reagan Stevenson, Reilly Stevenson, Sam Stevenson, Josey Stevenson, Jason Milam, and Christian Milam. Bera's devotion to her family was unwavering, and they remain forever grateful for the love and guidance she provided. She is also survived by her dear brother, Dwight Moose (Ora), along with her sisters Debbie Byers (Steve) and Loretta Baker, alongside several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember her with fondness.
Bera was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Dagenhart Moose, her stepfather, Bill Moose, and her husband, Robert Louis Stevenson. She also mourned many siblings: Jeanette Siceloff, Wilma Nash, Carl Moose, Sylvia Brewer, David Moose, Tom Moose, and Jim Moose as well as her granddaughter Erika Stevenson and great-grandson Jackson Aaron Stevenson.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, followed immediately by a memorial service from 2:30 pm, where family, friends, and all whose lives she touched can come together to celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
