Betty Sue Wallace Shepherd

Betty Sue Wallace Shepherd, a cherished mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at her home in Alexander County on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on Thursday, April 5, 1951, in Ashe County.

Betty was known for her unwavering devotion to her family. Throughout her life, Betty embraced the beauty of nature and found joy in tending to her flowers and gardening. These passions reflected her nurturing spirit and her love for creating a warm environment for those around her. Betty was also a woman of faith, grounded in her Christian beliefs.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Her surviving family includes her sons, Dallas "Brad" Carpenter and Jerry Carpenter, stepsons, Roger and Boyd Shepherd. Betty was a proud grandmother to Corbin Carpenter, Sherina Campbell, Kelsey Pennington, and Kimberly Whittington, step-grandchildren, Cody, Crystal, and Mike Shepherd, and she delighted in the joy brought to her life by her 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Dot and brothers Bruce, Ned, and William "Wick.”

Betty was predeceased by her husband, F.D. Shepherd Jr., and her children's father, Dallas Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Clyde Welch Wallace, as well as her sisters Helen, Ruth, Mary, her brother Charlie Wallace, and stepson, Von Shepherd.

A funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Alexander Funeral Service, located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at a later date in the Flatwood Cemetery in Ashe County. Pastor Arlie Roten and Rhett Miller will officiate.

Betty will be remembered for her love of family, her gentle spirit, and her enduring legacy of kindness. She touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever live in the hearts of those she loved.
