Bonnie Sue Dula Simms, age 93, a cherished mother, devoted member of her community, and a guiding light to those who knew her, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at her home in Alexander County. Born on February 21, 1933, in Alexander County, Bonnie lived a life marked by selflessness and dedication to her family and faith.
Throughout her working career, Bonnie was deeply committed to childcare, exemplifying her nurturing spirit and passion for helping others. Those close to her recall her as someone who always put others before herself, embodying the qualities of a modern-day Mother Teresa. Her love extended beyond her professional life; she was a devoted mother who treasured her family above all else.
Bonnie was a faithful member of Restoration Church and held a profound love for her Lord, which was evident in all aspects of her life. Her leadership and commitment to community were also displayed through her active involvement in the Women's Republican Club, where she served as past president, chaplain, and secretary. Her outstanding contributions were recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Women’s Federation of North Carolina, a testament to her enduring impact.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jack Simms (Patty) of Taylorsville, NC; Steve Simms of Jacksonville, FL; Greg Simms (Connie) of Mooresville, NC; Dana Noel (Scott) of Fleming Island, FL; and Sara McLain (Stuart) of Statesville, NC. Bonnie also leaves behind a brother, Anderson Dula of Dudley Shoals, NC, and a large and loving extended family including grandchildren Timothy Simms, Matthew Simms (Deidra), Stephanie Simms, Michael Simms (Rebecca), Jeremiah Simms (April), Anna Simms, Andrew Simms, C.J. Windle (Patricia), Rebekah Grindstaff (Josh), and Faith McLain; great-grandchildren Kayla Miller (William), Kody Simms, Katen Simms, Hannah Gasca (Pete), Lyla Simms, Michael Simms III, Maya Simms, Alex Simms, Chris Simms, Ryan Simms, Nick Simms, Joey Simms, Nikyah Windle, Jahsia Windle, Wyatte Grindstaff, Colton Grindstaff; and great-great-grandchildren, Birklynn Simms, Aaron Simms, and Hayden Gasca.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Rome Wakefield Dula and Bessie Jane Pennell Dula; her beloved husband of 35 years, Lindell Harold Simms; her grandson, Joshua Paul Simms; as well as six sisters and two brothers.
A visitation to honor Bonnie’s memory will be held at New Life Church, located at 46 Warren Road, Township of Taylorsville, NC 28681, on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, June 19, 2026, at New Life Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at Dover Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Greg Simms and Pastor Steve Watson will officiate.

Bonnie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her boundless love for her family, and her enduring commitment to serving others. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
