Christopher "Chris" Lynn Hefner, age 64, born on May 15, 1961, in Catawba County, passed away on April 10, 2026, in Guilford County. He dedicated 28 years of his life to shaping young minds as an educator at Stony Point Elementary School. Chris earned his bachelor's degree in education from Lenior Rhyne University and was twice honored with the Teacher of the Year award in Alexander County, a testament to his exceptional commitment and passion for teaching.
A devoted member of Stony Point Baptist Church, Chris's faith was a cornerstone of his life. His dedication extended beyond the classroom into his community and family life. He was an avid sports enthusiast, lovingly supporting the Tar Heels and the Braves. Chris had a deep love for working in his flower garden, finding joy in nurturing both plants and people, especially his grandchildren.
Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Tamera "Tammy" Keller Hefner; his father, D.C. Hefner; his son, Zachary "Zach" Hefner (Lydia); his daughter, Lynee' Hefner; and his sister, Angela "Angie" Turnmire (Phil). He cherished his role as a grandfather to Sawyer and Elsie Hefner. Chris also leaves behind nephews Ross Turnmire (Katie), Ben Turnmire (Ericka) and niece Meredith Hildebran (Jonny). He was preceded in death by his mother, Vonda Carter Hefner.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation held at Stony Point Baptist Church Lindsey Hall, located at 231 Ruritan Park Rd, Stony, NC 28678, on April 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM. This will be followed by the funeral service from 4:00 PM at Stony Point Baptist Church Lindsey Hall. The family asks that you wear Carolina blue to the services. Rev. Zach Deal, Rev. Durrant Barr, and Rev. Dwight Austin will officiate.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Stony Point Baptist Church Building Fund at 231 Ruritan Park Rd, Stony Point, NC 28678.
Chris's warmth, dedication, and kindness touched many lives, and his legacy as an educator and family man will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
