Brother Claude Douglas McArthur Harrington has laid down his working tools. Doug was born on May 31, 1942, the 13th child of Dessie Metta Chapman Harrington and Loyd Parks Harrington. His final days were met with Courage, Faith and Grace. Doug passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on February 5, 2026.
Doug was a beloved figure whose life was marked by dedication to his family and community. He was a Master Mason since 1972 and was a member of the Conover Lodge #709. He was a Noble Oasis Shriner and a member of Hillbilly Clan #13.
Doug's gregarious personality served him well for many years as a life insurance salesman, but ultimately his love of the road won out and he logged many miles as a truck driver traveling to every state in the continental US, except North Dakota. He often said, “There's nothing in North Dakota, anyway.”
His commitment to his profession was paralleled only by his devotion to his family. Doug loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. His warmth and laughter created countless memories that will continue to be shared among those who knew him. Doug was raised at Three Forks Baptist Church and was currently active at Wayside Baptist Church.
In addition to his work and community service, Doug had a passion for parades, playing cards and telling jokes, often bringing joy and laughter to those around him. His personality was a beacon of light, drawing people in with his kind-hearted nature.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Harrington Marley and Misty Dawn Harrington (Rodney Cline); sister, Vivian Kay Harrington White (Lee McArthur White); and a loving group of grandchildren including Laura Katherine Marley Lauver (Jonathan Lauver), Sidney Victoria Marley Griffin (Michael Griffin), William Chapman Marley, and Hannah Bailey Schultz. Doug was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Lillian Claire Lauver, William Gordon Lauver, and Lucas Keaton Lauver, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, and 11 siblings: James Butler Harrington, Ellen Sue Harrington, Richard Columbus Harrington, William Graydon Harrington, Donald Parks Harrington, Charlie Chapman Harrington, David Ray Harrington, Betty Lou Harrington Echerd, Alice Marie Harrington, Bobbie Jean Harrington Potts, and Virginia Faye Harrington. His son-in-law, William Sidney Marley, also predeceased him.
Visitation for Doug will be held Friday February 20, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Three Forks Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held Saturday February 21, 2026, at 11:00 am at Three Forks Baptist Church. Dr. Carson Moseley and Rev. Sammy Kiser will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mark White and Johnny Echerd. Inurnment will be with the family.
