Cleeda Fern Keever Sloop, age 96, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on Friday June 12, 2026, at the Mountain Valley - Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Surry County. Born on September 13, 1929, in Alexander County, Cleeda lived a life marked by devotion to her loved ones and a deep engagement with the joys of everyday living.

Cleeda was a faithful attendee of Solid Rock Baptist Church after receiving Jesus as her Lord and Savior three years ago. Her life was enriched by simple pleasures that brought joy not only to herself but also to those around her. She had a passion for diamond art, a zest for the friendly competition of bingo, and a love of traveling to the beach, each reflecting her spirited nature and appreciation for beauty and fellowship.

A proud mother and family woman, Cleeda’s heart was always with her family. She is survived by her sons, Brent Sloop and his wife Lori, and Ricky Sloop and his wife Karen. Her family circle also warmly includes her nephew, Lanny Ray Keever, and his wife Doris, who was like a son to her, her grandchildren, Dustin Sloop (Katie), and Cassie Lynn Sloop, three great-grandchildren, Reese Sloop, Elijah Sloop, and Ian Sloop, and her sister, Fairy Stallings, who shared many years of companionship and support.

Cleeda was preceded in death by her parents, J. Gault Keever and Cora Warren Keever; her devoted husband of 75 years, Clarence Ray Sloop; as well as her sisters, Quillene Keever and Annie Peacock, and brothers, Loyd Keever, Glenn Keever, and Garland Keever.

Throughout her years, Cleeda exemplified a quiet strength and warmth, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. She cherished every moment spent with her family, valuing their presence above all else. Her legacy is one of love, faith, and joyful resilience—a testament to a life dedicated to the happiness and well-being of those dear to her.
