Colleen Elizabeth Eades Gilleland

Colleen Elizabeth Eades Gilleland, age 97, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, at her home in Alexander County. She was born September 20, 1928, in Catawba County, beginning a life that would touch the hearts of generations and radiate warmth and dedication in every circle she graced.

Colleen and her husband Henry was the proud owners of Crossroads Trading Post, through which they built enduring relationships and served her community with care and integrity. Deeply rooted in her faith, she was a devoted member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church, finding strength and guidance in the fellowship she held dear. Her steadfast values and compassionate spirit were evident not only in her church involvement but in the way she lived her days—steadily, faithfully, and always with love for those around her.

Family was central to Colleen’s world. She is survived by her son, Randy Gilleland; her devoted grandson, Patrick Gilleland (Harriet); her loving great-granddaughter, Carson Johnson (Will); her adoring great-great-granddaughter who is the fifth generation, Clara Johnson; and her treasured sister, Helen Campbell. The memories they now hold are filled with warmth from shared laughter, gentle guidance, and countless moments of togetherness.

She is preceded in death by her father, Ransom Eades, and mother, Bertha Setzer Eades—whose influence shaped her kindness and strength. Her beloved husband of 45 years, Henry Gilleland, and infant daughter, Sarita Gilleland, along with her brothers Newell, Edgar, and Jim Eads, and sisters Kathleen Eades Huffman, Dessie Moose Rowe, Alice Huffman, Mary Edwards, Lois Ervin Gabriel, and Dorothy Caldwell.

Colleen’s interests reflected a zest for life’s simple pleasures. She delighted in traveling, collecting memories and stories along the way. One of her most favorite pastimes standing by her window, watching the flow of traffic: a quiet reflection of her enjoyment of life as it passed before her, in both grand gestures and quiet moments. She loved reading, embraced the unique art of cutting meat, and found true joy in supporting her family—cherishing the opportunity to watch her great-granddaughter play sports and spending precious time with her great-great-granddaughter.

Colleen’s values and personality left an indelible mark. Known for her unwavering support of the Republican party, she brought conviction and purpose to everything she did, never shying away from standing for what she believed in. Yet, it was her unwavering devotion to her loved ones and her faith community that truly defined her.

Family and friends will gather to honor Colleen’s life and legacy with visitation on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Herman Baptist Church, located at 3280 US Highway 64 90 West, Township of Taylorsville, NC 28681. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the same location. Burial will take place at the Mt. Herman Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Paul Schronce and Rev. Dwight Austin will officiate. Pete Gilleland, Will Johnson, Chris Echard, Trey Herman, Charley Howell, Jack Skinner will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Eads and Scott Campbell.

Colleen’s presence enriched many lives, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unwavering devotion, loving spirit, and the lasting legacy she leaves in the hearts of her family and friends.
