Taylorsville

Daryl Wayne Cobb, age 67, born June 6, 1959, in Chico, California, passed away at his home in Alexander County on June 27, 2026. His life was one marked by dedication to family.

Daryl was the beloved son of the late Ben Harrison Cobb, Jr. (Jane) and Evelyn May Amerine (John). He earned two Bachelor’s degrees—one in Chemistry and another in Biology. He went on to study microbiology beyond his bachelor’s.

Before retirement Daryl worked as a lead mixing operator at Shurtape. He took pride in having helped to build the Savannah River Dam as a reinforcing steel ironworker. Daryl enjoyed cooking, trying new recipes, and preparing meals for loved ones. He was a coffee enthusiast who loved crossword puzzles and had a love of history. He spent many hours perfecting his gameplay on the Super Nintendo games that he loved. White water rafting was among Daryl’s favorite adventurous pursuits.

Daryl loved spending time with all of his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved telling jokes and funny stories. His daughters, Dena Griffin (Ryan) and Andrea Romero (Phillip), were constant sources of pride and love in his life. He leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Quentin and Sophia Romero, and is fondly remembered by his sisters, Beth Allman (Darrell) and Susie Edgar. Others left to cherish his memory include his uncle, Gary Cobb; his aunt, Carolyn Smith; his nieces and nephews: Jared Allman, Daniel Allman (Jane), Jessica Allman, his great-nephew, Bennett, and great-nieces, Maggie, and Mannmann.

Friends and family are invited to honor Daryl’s life at a visitation to be held on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. The family will be holding a private ceremony in Yellowstone National Park at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary, PO Box 675, Red Lodge, MT 59068.

As we remember Daryl, we celebrate the impact he had on so many—his love of learning and his dedication to family. He will be dearly missed and warmly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
