David Wayne Bentley, age 61, born on Wednesday, November 20, 1963, in Alexander County, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Catawba County. A devoted family man and a respected member of his community, David's legacy is one characterized by love, strength, devotion, and an unwavering faith.
David dedicated many years of his career as a logistics manager at Yanjan USA in Statesville, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was deeply involved in his local community's recreational department, where he transitioned from coaching to becoming president. His passion for sports and recreation highlighted his love for fostering joy and teamwork in others. He derived immense pleasure from a variety of hobbies including traveling, trout fishing, painting, cycling, going to thrift stores, engaging in cosplay, and participating in 5Ks. Each of these pursuits revealed his adventurous spirit and vibrant character.
David was of the Baptist faith, a testament to the values that guided him throughout his life. He cherished his family immensely, and the bonds he created with them were profound. David never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Renate Watts Bentley, and their daughters, Tabatha Nicole Harris and Samantha Bentley King (Caleb). He was also a proud grandfather to Dean Edwards and Evangeline Smiley King, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Roy Lindon Bentley (Martha) and Derrell Bentley (Lisa), as well as his nephews and nieces, Lynn Echerd (Rodger), Kathy Stikeleather (Cameron), Stacey Bentley (Jamie), and Amanda Bentley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Lena Belle James Bentley.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Little River Baptist Church, located at 2070 Little River Church Road, Township of Taylorsville, NC 28681. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Little River Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Rev. Caleb King will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to City of Hope, 600 Celebrate Life Parkway, Newnan, GA, 30265. David received his treatment at City of Hope, where the staff and patients became a secondary family and a secondary home.
David will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the love he shared not only with his family but also with everyone fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the countless lives he touched throughout his lifetime.
