Dennis Ernest Bumgarner, age 84, passed away on December 5, 2025, at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice Home in Mooresville, North Carolina. Born on December 8, 1940, in Alexander County, Dennis lived a life marked by dedication to family, service, and a deep love for his community.
For 32 years, worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service at the Taylorsville Post Office. His career was characterized by hard work and commitment, and he was well-respected among his colleagues and the residents he served. Dennis also took pride in his military service, having served four years in the United States Air Force, where he developed qualities of leadership and service that he carried into civilian life.
Dennis was a member of First Baptist Church. He was particularly proud of his association with the American Legion Post 170 in Taylorsville, where he served as Adjutant. His contributions were not only numerous but were undertaken with a spirit of service that motivated many around him.
Family was the centerpiece of Dennis's life. He loved his family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them. He is survived by his daughter Teresa Bumgarner, along with his grandchildren Marcus Gienger, Cassie Johnson, and Dylan Herman. Dennis is also survived by one brother Christy Bumgarner.
He was preceded in death by his parents Atwell and Pansy Parsons Bumgarner, his daughter Dawn Bumgarner, and his brother Barry Bumgarner.
In addition to his dedication to family and service, Dennis enjoyed reading, often finding new worlds and stories within the pages of books.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a memorial service beginning at 3:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Inurnment will be with the family. Rev. Scott Henson will officiate.

Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will not be forgotten. His memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him.
