Donald Lewis Nicholson, affectionately known as Don, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Alexander County on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Born on Thursday, March 1, 1956, in Wilkes County, Don lived a life rich with devotion, love, and dedication to both his family and his faith.
Don worked as an electrician for G.L. Wilson, where his skill and commitment were respected by all who knew him. Beyond his profession, his true passions revealed the depth of his character—a heart steadfast in faith, a love for the outdoors, and a profound devotion to his family. A cherished member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Don served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for many years. His faith was a guiding light, reflected in his love of the Lord and his daily reading of the Bible.
Family was the cornerstone of Don’s world. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren—Hannah Nicholson, Gracie Nicholson, William Nicholson, Maleigha Nicholson, Lauren Wheatley, and Waylon Wishon—whose laughter and presence brought him immense joy. His 24 years of marriage to his wife, Pam Massey Nicholson, was marked by deep partnership and affection. Don was also a proud father to his sons Bradley Nicholson (Teresa) and Brett Nicholson (Stephanie), and a beloved brother to Pam Campbell (Joey) and Jan Campbell (Donald). His extended family included cherished nieces, nephews, and the loyal companionship of Brandy, his beloved fur baby.
An outdoorsman at heart, Don found peace and happiness whether he was hunting, raising beef cattle, or spending time with his treasured Labs. These simple joys connected him to the land and the rhythms of nature he so deeply appreciated.
Don’s life was shaped by the love and memories of those who preceded him: his parents Rev. Bill Nicholson and Joan Johnson Nicholson, and his first wife, Cynthia Woodfin Nicholson.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 965 Pilgrim Church Road, Hiddenite, NC, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 6, 2026, at Pilgrim Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Joey Campbell will officiate. Bradley Nicholson, Brett Nicholson, Travis Campbell, Mack Campbell, Brian Campbell, and Chet Campbell will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Donald Campbell.
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 517, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
Don leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and friendship that will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him. His gentle soul, steadfast faith, and boundless love have left an indelible mark on this world, and his presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. May we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind and in the knowledge that his spirit rests peacefully in the hands of the Lord he so dearly loved.
