Donna Robertson Ward

Donna Robertson Ward, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 19, 2025, at Gordon Hospice House in Iredell County. Born on October 14, 1954, in Dade County, Florida, she lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service.

During her working career, Donna made a significant impact as a correctional officer, a role that exemplified her strength and commitment to justice. Yet, it was her role as a mother and grandmother that brought her the most joy and fulfillment. She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them, creating countless happy memories that will last a lifetime.

Donna is survived by her beloved children, Jeannie Grindstaff (Chris) and Jeff Gwaltney (Leila), who carry forward her legacy of love and warmth. Her spirit lives on in her grandchildren, Jacey Ramirez (Chris), Matthew Grindstaff (Angel), Jylian Gwaltney (Jesse), Jorja Gwaltney, Landon Gwaltney, and Colby Grindstaff, as well as her great-grandchildren, Bentley Purdin, Elleri Ramirez, Jocelyn Grindstaff, and Jon Grindstaff. Donna also leaves behind her sister, Linda Smith, and special family members Stacey and Billy Owen, who held a prominent place in her heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse "Buddy" Knox and Georgina "Jean" Knox, her loving husband, Slater Robertson, her brother Charles Knox, her sister, Diana Faircloth, and fiancé, Bill Caille.

A woman of faith, Donna was of the Baptist faith, which was integral to her life and how she approached the world. In her leisure, she found joy in crocheting and showering love on her pets, nurturing them as she did her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Donna will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the unwavering love she shared with those around her. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her legacy of love will continue to inspire all who knew her. As her family gathers to honor her memory, they take comfort in knowing that she will live on in their hearts forever.
