Elizabeth "Beth" Barnes Fox, born on June 3, 1940, in Alexander County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025. A devoted educator, Beth dedicated over 50 years of her life to teaching and retired as an Assistant Principal in the Alexander County School System, exemplifying her unwavering commitment to education and the well-being of children.
Beth's passion for learning was matched by her heartfelt love for travel; she visited many corners of the globe, embracing new cultures and perspectives while sharing her experiences with friends and family. She was not only an advocate for education but also a cherished member of the Salem Lutheran Church, actively participating in senior trips and Vacation Bible School, where her vibrant spirit touched the lives of many.
Her family remembers her proudest accomplishments, particularly her dedication to reading, which she instilled in students and loved ones alike. Beth is survived by her children: James Raeford Fox, Mary Ruth Moretz, and Mark Andrew Fox (Tonja). She was also a beloved grandmother to Elijah Moretz, Kyle Fox, Whitney Howard, Logan Moretz, Justin Fox, Allison Millsaps, and Dylan Fox and great grandmother to 13. Also a caring sister-in-law to Diane Barnes, daughter-in-law Lisa Fox, special friend Wanda Rector, special cousins Ken and Gail Harrington, and a loving caregiver Carol Deal.
Beth was predeceased by her husband of over 20 years, J.C. Fox, her son, John "David" Fox, and her brother, John Lloyd Barnes. Her legacy will live on through those she taught, loved, and inspired.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, both taking place at Salem Lutheran Church located at 4005 North Carolina 16 in the Township of Taylorsville, NC, 28681. Pastor Reed Shoaff will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Harrington, Garrett Harrington, Neill England, John Millsaps, Justin Fox, Logan Moretz, Jacob Moretz.
