Frances Enlow Petrea, born on Monday, May 10, 1937, in Caldwell County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home in Alexander County on Thursday, May 1, 2025. She was a beloved member of her community and devoted to her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be cherished by those who knew her.
Throughout her working career, Frances served as a dedicated teacher assistant, where she shared her kindness and guidance with countless students. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life and influenced many around her.
Frances was a loving mother to her daughter, Kimberly "Kim" Hefner (Randy), and her sons, Jessie, HL, and David Petrea. She found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Heather Simmons, Courtney Harris (Justin), Zachary Petrea, Haley Dula (Adam), Taylor Petrea, and Hope Rogers. In addition, she took delight in spending time with her great-grandchildren: Blake, Hattie, Harrison, Brooke, Holden, Maggie, and Harper. These precious relationships brought her endless happiness and fulfillment. She is also survived by her sisters, Jeanette Dyson (Gerald) and Ruth Israel, along with a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember her with love.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Enlow and Lula Mae Evans Enlow; her husband Harry Petrea, her sons, David Petrea and Harry Lee "H.L." Petrea Jr.; her grandson Corey Petrea; and her siblings George, Leonard, Ralph, Kenneth, Rubel Enlow, and Thelma Enlow.
Frances’ hobbies included flower gardening and fishing, activities that brought her peace and joy in life. Her love for the outdoors was just one reflection of her vibrant spirit.
The visitation for Frances will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church located at 580 Antioch Church Rd, Taylorsville, NC 28681. The funeral service will be Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Morris and Rev. Chance Cuzman will officiate. Justin Harris, Adam Dula, Scott Sigmon, Chris Echerd, Rick Benfield, and Zachary Petrea will serve as pallbearers.
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to the Alexander County Library for children’s books, 77 1st Ave SW, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
Frances’ life was a testament to love, community, and devotion. She will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
