Glenn Oliver Parkhurst, 73, of Taylorsville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and cherished memories of those who passed before him. Born on December 17, 1952, in Beaufort, South Carolina, Glenn lived a life defined by kindness, gratitude, faith, and unwavering love for others.
A graduate of Quantico High School in Quantico, Virginia, Class of 1971, Glenn proudly served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Sciences from Thomas A. Edison State College and established a career as a Nuclear Radiation Detection Specialist and published author.
Glenn found joy in life’s simple blessings — tending to his chickens and bees, gardening, fishing, boating, and spending time outdoors. He lived each day grateful to God for the gift of life, deeply appreciative of the loved ones by his side, and always honoring the memory of those who had gone before him.
For 29 years, Glenn lived faithfully in recovery and was a proud believer in the message and fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. One of his favorite sayings was, “How sweet it is to be sober.” He volunteered countless hours with the Boys & Girls Club, donated blood regularly, and never hesitated to help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth M. Parkhurst; his father, Reed A. Parkhurst; his sister, Linda J. Harrington; his son, D. Shane Parkhurst; and his grandson, Gavin D. Parkhurst.
He is survived by his sisters, Donna Chubb of Taylorsville, North Carolina, Judy Fitzgerald of Vero Beach, Florida, and Ruth Patterson of Taylorsville, North Carolina; his sons, Reed O. Parkhurst of Ladson, South Carolina, Tommy Newell of Ladson, South Carolina, and Joey (Patrick) Newell of Clearwater, Florida; his grandchildren, Nathan, Thomas, Haley, Jaxon, Evan, Luke, Joslyn, and Tyler; his great-grandchildren, Lani and Joe; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 26, 2026, in the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel at 7:00 pm.
Glenn’s legacy of love, humility, and service will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local Boys and Girls Club in Glenn's name.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service.
