Gordon Lee Oxentine, age 77, a beloved husband, father, and proud veteran who dedicated his life to serving his country in the United States Army, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Catawba County. He was born on Sunday, January12, 1947, in Wilkes County.
Gordon will be remembered for his deep love for his family and the joy he found in spending time with them. His warm personality and caring nature touched the lives of all who knew him. Gordon had a range of interests that shaped his life. He took pleasure in gardening, tending to honeybees, indulging in trout fishing adventures, and selflessly helping others whenever he could. He attended Macedonia Baptist Church and was a regular supporter of St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virlea Greene, Martha Cox, Shirley Sipe, Carrie Fox, Cora Oxentine, and Mary Sue Speaks; brothers, Clarence Oxentine, Hubert Oxentine, Richard Oxentine, and Carroll Oxentine Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy Oxentine, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together they raised their sons Bryan Oxentine (Amy) and Daniel Lee Oxentine (Shelia). The family circle extended to include a special daughter, Holly Bentley. Gordon's memory will also live on through his grandchildren: Stephanie Chester, Kerri Hopke, Robert Lee Oxentine, Michael Aaron Oxentine, AJ Hopke (Amanda), Caitlyn Dickerson (Andrew), Jonathan Oxentine; and great-grandchildren Layla Oxentine, Tristian Oxentine, Emma Tollie, Brandon Oxentine, Aurelia Oxentine, Caleb Oxentine, Elanor and Millie Hopke, Gunner, Phoebe, and Charlie Dickerson.
In addition to his immediate family, Gordon leaves behind siblings James and Roger Oxentine and a host of nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Gordon Lee Oxentine will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm and followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Taylor Pennell will officiate. Dean Fox, Ricky Speaks, William Speaks, James Speaks, Garrett Speaks, Joseph Daniels will serve as pallbearers. AJ Hopke and Andrew Dickerson will serve as honorary pallbearers. A proud veteran who served with honor and dignity, Gordon will be laid to rest with military honors.

Gordon will forever be cherished by all those whose lives he touched with compassion and kindness. May his memories bring comfort during this time of sorrow as we celebrate a life well-lived—a life that exemplified love for family and service to others.
