Harold Justice Deal, lovingly known as Hal, age 72, passed away on October 11, 2026, at his home in Alexander County. He was born on December 16, 1953, and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and faithful servant of his church and community.
Hal built a life centered on hard work, faith, and family. He worked at CommScope and later served as foreman for Justin A. Deal Construction. He was an avid reader who enjoyed working, playing the banjo, loved Bluegrass music, thrifting, and bird watching with his wife. He was full of humor and was a great storyteller, and those who knew him will remember the warmth and laughter he brought to so many moments. Above all, he had an enduring love for his wife, and loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.
A man of deep faith, Hal was a member of Millersville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for over 40 years, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and in multiple groups in the church, but was most remembered for singing with the Slimy River Bottom Boys. His steadfast faith, unwavering devotion to the Lord, and sacrificial service defined the man he chose to be in Christ and was a true blessing to his church family.
He was survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruelene Fox Deal, for a short time until they were reunited a few hours later with their Lord and Savior. He also leaves behind his children, April Deal Sigmon (Darian), Justin A. Deal (Carla), and Hayley Deal Absher (Jason). Hal’s love extended richly through the generations, and he is also survived by his grandchildren, JT Teague (Terri), Jay Teague (Caitlyn), Madison McCurry (Jon), Seth Sigmon (Baylee), Jaycey Deal, Kenley Pennell, Kreed Pennell, Elizabeth Absher, Maggie Absher, and Natalie Absher; and by his great-grandchildren, Adalynn Sigmon, Bray Teague, Indy McCurry, and Kolter Sigmon. He is also survived by his sisters, Joy Fox and Tammy Rogers (Mike), and by his sister-in-law, Brenda Deal. His family was the center of his heart, and his love for them will continue to be carried forward in the stories they share and the memories they hold dear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Queen Deal and Ruby Jo Bumgarner Deal; brother, Jimmy Deal, and brother-in-law, Van Fox.
