James Charles Rogers, age 90, known by everyone who knew him as Charles, was born on Tuesday, June 5, 1934, in Alexander County. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Catawba Valley Living at Rock Barn in Catawba County, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family and community.

Charles grew up in Taylorsville where he graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1952. While still in school he worked at Schneider Mills, and after graduation he joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served four years and worked in intelligence. After his honorable discharge, he married his beloved Barbara, the love of his life, in 1957, and began working and attending college at Clevenger’s Business College and later at Lenoir Rhyne. He worked as an insurance agent and as a local business owner before eventually working full-time for the United States Air National Guard. After becoming a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, he continued to serve part-time in the Air Guard and after a commendable career in both positions, he retired from the postal service and from the Air Guard, having achieved the esteemed rank of Master Sergeant before his retirement.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Charles cherished every moment he spent with his beloved family. He was the devoted husband of the late Barbara Ann Childers Rogers. He took great pride in his children, Tammy Presnell (Mike), Shari Treadway, and Chuck Rogers (Angie), and formed an unbreakable bond with his grandchildren, including Collin Treadway, who preceded him in death, Caleb Rogers (Hope), Seth Treadway, Noah Rogers, Zach Treadway, and Chip Presnell, and step-grandchildren, Dustin Presnell and Devin Presnell. He treasured the memories created with them and celebrated the smiles they brought to his life.

Charles was devoted to family, and he loved being with them. The family shares many happy memories of delicious home-cooked meals and hours of conversation and laughter around the table at Charles’s house, fun-filled trips to Gatlinburg, picnics in the mountains, and many hours of sight-seeing trips in the car, particularly in the mountains. He also loved to ride his bike in the neighborhood and for many years, he grew an impressive garden.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Richard Rogers and Cecil Mae Chapman Rogers, and his brother, Guy Rogers. He also mourned the loss of his grandson, Collin Treadway.

A graveside service will be held to honor Charles's life on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 4:00 pm at the Liledoun Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 2628 Liledoun Rd, Taylorsville, NC. If we should have inclement weather the service will moved inside to the sanctuary of Liledoun Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Marshall will officiate. Full Military Rites will be provided by the Air Force.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alexander Hospice, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.

He is remembered by his family as a man of deep faith and a source of kindness, generosity, patience, gentleness, strength and guidance. His legacy will continue through the love he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
