Jerree Dalton McLain

September 19, 1936 — October 5, 2025

Jerree Dalton McLain, born September 19, 1936, in Alexander County, peacefully departed this life on October 5, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Iredell County. Jerree’s legacy is one of dedication, warmth, and a deep love for family and community.

Jerree proudly served his country in the United States Army that included a tour of duty in Seoul, Korea. He further exemplified his dedication to service as a member of the VFW and former Vice Commander. Jerree demonstrated his dedication and great work ethic by working at JC Penney Distribution Center for 31 years prior to his retirement.

A devoted family man, Jerree cherished spending time with his loved ones. He had an enduring love for his late wife, Linda Cook McLain, who passed away in 2022 after 63 years of marriage. Together, they were active members of the Emerald Square Dancers, sharing joy and laughter on the dance floor. Jerree’s family includes his children, Bobby McLain (Lottie Mayberry) and Vivian Melvin (Robert), as well as his grandsons, Philip Melvin and Christopher Melvin. He also leaves behind his sister, Marion Rogers, sister-in-law, Betty Lovette, and several nieces and nephews who will forever hold him in their hearts. In addition to his parents and his wife, Jerree was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Judy Fletcher and brother-in-law, Vaughn Rogers.

Jerree was a member of the South River Methodist Church community, where his faith and service flourished. He found fulfillment not only in his career but also in his outside interests, including farming, maintaining a tidy yard, and engaging in conversation with everyone he met; he never encountered a stranger.

In honoring Jerree’s memory, family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at South River United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, followed by a funeral service at 3:00pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided. Rev. Denise Kilgo and Rev. Jeff Carson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robin Rogers, Rodney Rogers, Michael McLain, Robert McLain, Philip Melvin, and Christopher Melvin.

The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Jerree leaves behind a legacy woven with kindness, service, and love-a reminder to all who knew him of the importance of family and community connection.
