Jerrie Lucille Sears Head, age 86, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Taylorsville House in Alexander County. Born on January 9, 1940, in Alexander County, Jerrie’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, faith, and service.
Jerrie devoted much of her professional life to the furniture industry, where she worked with diligence and care until her retirement. Following this, she embraced new roles in lawn care and caregiving, demonstrating the same commitment and compassion that defined her character until she was no longer able to continue those endeavors.
Her deep-rooted faith was central to her existence. Raised attending First Baptist Church, she later became a devoted member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church. There, she found joy and fellowship singing in the choir and participating in Steve Lackey’s Sunday Class. Also, in church she taught numerous Sunday School classes for children for many years. Jerrie treasured her church family and was known for ensuring that her loved ones were always present in worship, reflecting her profound love and cherished connection to both her faith and family. Jerrie often took care of others helping Scottie Barnes with Forgiven Ministries for years and also enjoyed visiting friends and church family at nursing homes over the years.
A longtime sports enthusiast, Jerrie was an avid supporter of Florida State football, Alexander Central High School football, the Washington Redskins, the Carolina Panthers, and Duke basketball. Her passion for the game brought energy and excitement to her life and those around her.
Jerrie’s legacy lives on through her children Dale Head (Beth), Becky Rogers (Greg), David Head, Elizabeth Rogers, and Daryl Head (Judy); her sister Janice Jolly; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She also shared special bonds with friends Carla Lawing, Mary Lou Fischer, and Mary Lee Freimanis, who stood by her side in friendship and support. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Amanda Simpson, for her care and kindness for Jerrie for the past couple years, Mary Ivory for caring for Jerrie in her final months has meant so much, also her neighbor Courtney and her children for always being the kind and caring neighbor she needed, and a warm thank you to the staff at Taylorsville House and Carolina Caring for their love, support and care over the past several months.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Daniel Sears, Jr. and Lunda Luvinna Gryder Sears, and by her son, Daniel Eugene Head.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at East Taylorsville Baptist Church from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, May 8, 2026, at East Taylorsville Baptist Church at 4:00 pm. Burial will follow in Taylorsville City Cemetery. Rev Kevin White and Rev. Mark Marshall will officiate. Pallbearers will be Matt Head, Dustin Head, Christian Rogers, Noah Rogers, Nathan Roseman, Mack Stikeleather. Honorary pallbearers will be David Bolick and Tim Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658.
Jerrie will be remembered for her generous spirit, her devotion to family and faith, and the warmth and strength she brought to all who knew her. Her life stands as a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear.
