Jimmie David Sherrill, Sr., age 91, known fondly as Jim, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at Trinity Ridge in Catawba County. Born on July 13, 1934, in Caldwell County, Jim lived a life dedicated to his family, his career, and his community.
Jim enjoyed a successful career as an engineer at CommScope, where he worked diligently for 42 years before retiring. His commitment to excellence was evident not only in his professional life but also in his community involvement. He was proud to serve as the district president for the Ruritan Club and was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, contributing much to the ideals and mission of the organizations he held dear.
With a Master's degree from Lenoir Rhyne, Jim embraced knowledge and education, which he considered paramount for personal progress. His military service in The United States Air Force was a source of pride for him, reflecting his dedication to his country.
Jim cherished the outdoors, where he found solace in gardening both vegetables and flowers. He relished woodworking and enjoyed golfing, which brought him joy and relaxation. Traveling, particularly camping with his friends, was another of his passions that he embraced wholeheartedly.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Doris Jean Sherrill; his children, Jeff Franklin of Bethlehem, NC, Jane Corley (Gary) of Hiddenite, NC, Angela Reynolds of Fort Mill, SC, and Sonya Barker of Newton, NC; his sisters, Patsy Sherrill and Joyce Jasper; and a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who will remember him fondly for his kindness and love of family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Gertie Trivette Sherrill, and his son, Jimmie David Sherrill Jr.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Bethlehem Baptist Church from 2:00 pm to 2:50 pm. The funeral service will be Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Bethlehem Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Dean Chambers will officiate.
The family will accept flowers, or memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s c/o Office of Philanthropy, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
Jim's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the love he shared with those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
