Joe Lawrence Simmons

Joe Lawrence Simmons, age 86, a beloved member of his family, passed away on December 14, 2025, at the Greens at Viewmont in Catawba County. He was born on April 3, 1939, in Alexander County.

Joe was a man of many interests and talents. He enjoyed working diligently in his garden, tending to his honeybees, and crafting homemade molasses. His passion for woodworking was evident through his exceptional ability to handcraft various instruments. Known as a hard worker, he thrived when he was engaged in projects and activities that contributed to the well-being of his loved ones and his home.

Joe dedicated his life to his family, embodying a spirit of love and care that will be dearly missed. He is survived by his children, Joey Lawrence Simmons Jr. (Martha), Cindy McKinley, Connie Simmons, Tim Simmons (Wendy), and Susanna Teague. He found joy in the company of his brothers, Dean Simmons, Lee Simmons, and Michael Simmons, as well as his sisters, Melissa Ritchie (Johnny), Deborah Coffey (Bruce), grandchildren, Kevin, Michelle, Brian, Carrie, Brandon, Brandley, and JoAnna, along with 12 delightful great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and LenaBelle Cline Simmons, his devoted wife of 51 years, Barbara Simmons, and his brother, Jeff Simmons. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy Sigmon, Nancy Goforth, Hilda Seter, and Linda Seagle, along with his sons-in-law, Harvey Teague and Allen McKinley, and daughter-in-law, Cindy Turner Simmons.

A family led visitation will be held Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Bethlehem from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3:30 pm. Burial will follow in the Simmons Family Cemetery.

Joe leaves behind a rich legacy of love, hard work, and dedication that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His presence in the lives of his family and friends will always be remembered fondly.
