Jonna Lajean Thompson

Jonna Lajean Thompson, age 73, born on February 25, 1952, in Bladen County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at her home in Alexander County. She lived a life marked by dedication to her family and community, and she touched the lives of many during her time with us.

Before retiring, Jonna worked as an account specialist for the Alexander County Health Department, a role in which she demonstrated her strong work ethic and commitment to service. Her professional life was defined by integrity and a deep understanding of the importance of health and well-being in her community.

Jonna’s heart belonged to her family. She cherished her son, Heath Burney, and his wife, Bonnie, as well as her six beloved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her love for them was evident in all she did, and she took immense joy in celebrating their lives and achievements. Jonna often found solace and fulfillment in her hobbies, enjoying gardening and reading, which served as beautiful extensions of her nurturing spirit.

Jonna was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lennie Clewis Thompson, and her son, Robert Earl Burney.

Jonna will lie in state from 9:30 am to 10:00 am on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Alexander Funeral Service in Taylorsville, North Carolina, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Pastor Chuck Bryant will officiate. Burial will take place on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Pine Crest Cemetery in Bladenboro.

The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Jonna will be remembered fondly for her unwavering love and devotion to her family, and her warm spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
