Joyce Witherspoon Clark

Joyce Witherspoon Clark, 94, passed through Heaven’s gates to meet her Savior Monday morning, May 12, 2025. Joyce was born Saturday, February 14, 1931, in Gaston County, raised on a dairy farm and proudly completed 12 years of school without missing a day. She was Valedictorian of her class and went on to study business at Kings College. She was employed at WIX Corporation in Gastonia, NC as a bookkeeper and after moving to Hickory, NC she was employed at Southern Hosiery as a payroll clerk. Her interests included gardening, sewing, painting, cooking, and family activities. Joyce was also a member at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church where she helped teach a Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Florence Witherspoon, brother, J.R Witherspoon, sister Louise Farnsworth, and her loving husband of 72 years, George Clark.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Ronald (Kathy), Gary (Karen), and Wayne (Renae) Clark; brother, Yates Witherspoon (Linda), grandchildren, Aundrea McCall (Jason), Justin Clark (Kim), Chasity Stamey (Shane), Allen Bristow, Kim Honeycutt (Andrew), and Scott Clark (Janae); great-grandchildren, Jared and Ashlyn McCall, Kaitlyn and Avery Clark, Emma and Garrett Stamey, Lilly Bristow, Ila and Cora Honeycutt, Layna Loudermelk, Rhenlie and Patrick Clark.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 16, 2025, at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church located at 9042 NC 127, Hickory, NC 28601, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Bradley Caldwell will officiate. Justin Clark, Jason McCall, Jared McCall, Shane Stamey, Scott Clark, Garrett Stamey, Andrew Honeycutt, and Allen Bristow will serve as pallbearers.

The family will accept flowers, or memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, 9042 NC 127, Hickory, NC 28601 or Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
