Kathleen Goodman Karriker

March 3, 1931 — March 12, 2026

Kathleen Goodman Karriker, age 95, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House in Iredell County. Born on March 3, 1931, in Rowan County, Kathleen’s life was marked by deep devotion—to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that brought warmth to those around her.

Kathleen was a steadfast member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church, where she found not only spiritual nourishment but also a close-knit fellowship. Her commitment to the church and her Sunday School class highlighted her generous spirit and unwavering dedication to her faith. She loved her church family deeply and was a loving guide and presence to all she encountered there.

Family was Kathleen’s heart and home. She was a devoted mother to Sheila Durmire (James), Paulette Smith (Roy), Tim Karriker (Mary), Kathy Bowles (Doyle), and Lisa Robinette (David). Through them, her legacy blossomed into a wonderful lineage of grandchildren, including Will Durmire (Nicole), Eric Smith (Christine), Wes Smith (Latosha), Brent Smith (Natalie), Audrey Karriker (Drew), T.J. Karriker (Sarah), Leigh Ann Bowles (Jamil), Jonathan Bowles (Emily), Matt Bowles, Abrianna Cloninger (Dillon), Ethan Robinette, and Dillon Moss, as well as twenty great-grandchildren who were treasured parts of her life. She is also survived by her sister Doris Walden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cora Christy Goodman, her beloved husband of 65 years, Melvyn Karriker, and her granddaughter, Maria Woodring.

Beyond her family and faith, Kathleen found joy in the quiet simplicity of nature, especially in feeding the birds—a small act that reflects her nurturing character and gentle soul. It was in these peaceful moments that her compassionate nature truly shone.
