Larry Sherman Moretz

Larry Sherman Moretz, age 74, a devoted husband, dad, and PawPaw, passed away on February 8, 2026, at Carolina Caring in Catawba County, North Carolina. He was born on August 28, 1951, in Alexander County. A man of Christian faith, Larry was widely admired for his warm and inviting spirit.

Larry enjoyed life to the fullest as an avid outdoorsman who delighted in hunting and fishing. He took pleasure in visiting flea markets and yard sales, where he often discovered hidden treasures. Additionally, Larry developed a passion for processing meat and making homemade sausage. Traveling was another of his favorite pastimes, and he treasured the experiences and memories made along the way.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Diane Moretz. Larry was a dedicated father to his children: ReDina Moretz, Sherman Moretz (Natasha), and Jamie McSwain (Todd). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Luke Moretz, Davis McSwain, Ben, Abi, and Ali Icard, Brax, Bo, and Avy Moretz, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Larry is also remembered by his uncle, Horace Moretz, and his aunt, Louella Herman (Jimmy). He leaves behind his lifelong best friend Dean Lail.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Webster Moretz and Frances Hill Moretz, as well as his infant twin sibling, brothers, Sonny Moretz and Wayne Moretz, sister, Wanda Staley, and the mother of his children, Deborah Moretz.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. A private graveside will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carolina Caring Hospice House, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658.

Larry will be remembered not just for the passions he pursued but for the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire and comfort those who had the honor of knowing him.
