Rev. Lewis Wetzel Beckett Jr., age 75, a loved family man and dedicated community member, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Carolina Caring in Catawba County. Born on Wednesday, January 11, 1950, in Logan County, West Virginia, Lewis was raised in a nurturing environment that instilled in him the values of love, faith, and diligence.

Lewis lived a life rich in joy and connection, always placing his family at the heart of his existence. He was the devoted husband of Thelma Ruth Tomblin Beckett for 40 remarkable years, sharing a bond grounded in mutual respect and affection. Together, they built a family that thrives today, including his daughter, Valerie Beckett Chapman, son, Lewis Wetzel Burgess (Jean), and proud grandchildren, Taylor Moose (Ben) and Katelynn Lineberger (Victor) and several other grandchildren. His legacy continues through eight great-grandchildren who will always remember the laughter and warmth he brought into their lives. He is survived by his sister Judy Turner, and his brothers Glenn Beckett (Geraldine) and Kenneth Beckett (Shelbia).

A man of diverse interests, Lewis enjoyed watching westerns and cherished his time spent outdoors, engaging in hobbies such as fishing, horseback riding, coon and deer hunting, and camping. These pursuits reflected his appreciation for nature and the simple joys in life. His passion for the outdoors often led him to create lasting memories with those he loved, strengthening the bonds of family and friendship.

Lewis found spiritual fulfillment as a member of Purpose Church, where he actively participated in community life and offered his support to others. His faith and commitment to his beliefs were central to his identity, guiding him through life’s challenges and triumphs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Wetzel Beckett and Dora Lee Hensley, and his brother, Jim Beckett, and nephews, Jimmy Lee Beckett, and George Canterbury Jr. in eternal rest.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lewis Wetzel Beckett Jr. will be remembered for his extraordinary kindness, unwavering dedication to his family, and the light he brought into the lives of those around him. His spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew and cherished him.
