Lonnie L. Shew, a beloved figure in his community and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Alexander County on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on Saturday, February 20, 1933, in Wilkes County, to the late Rev. T.R. Shew and Beulah Porter Shew.
Lonnie was of the Baptist faith, which anchored him throughout his life. He was known for his deep love for family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His presence will be profoundly missed not only by those who knew him personally but by all whose lives he touched. He owned and operated Lenoir Woodcarving with his wife and family for almost 40 years.
A passionate farmer at heart, Lonnie found joy in watching his cows graze and caring for his beloved animals, particularly his dog, Bob, and Tennessee Walking horses. His love for the outdoors extended to leisurely rides on his golf cart, where he would often reflect on life's simple pleasures.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years whom he referred to as “His Sweetheart,” Carfene Clark Shew, daughter, Darlene Shew, grandson, Doug Deal, seven brothers and one sister.
Lonnie is survived by his children, Wanda Shew Deal (Lee), Gene Shew (Debbie), and Jimmy Shew (Glenda). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Christy Bryant (Scott), Brandon Simmons, Delena Sharpe (Chad), Stephanie Wilson (Shannon), and Christopher Shew, along with seven great-grandchildren who will forever cherish the moments spent with their grandfather. He is also survived by his brother, Reece Shew, and special caregiver, Danyelle Walsh.
Lonnie's legacy will be celebrated during a visitation on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Burial will follow in the Shew Family Cemetery. Rev. Keith Bowman and Rev. Taylor Pennell will officiate.

Lonnie will be remembered for his kindness, love for animals, and the joyful moments spent with family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
