Lucy Mae Inzer Byrd, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at Valley Nursing Center in Alexander County. Born on August 29, 1934, in Knox County, Tennessee, Lucy lived a life filled with devotion, service, and unwavering love for her family and community.

Lucy's legacy shines bright through the countless lives she touched over her ninety-one years. She was known for her kind spirit and personal warmth—a true pillar of strength and support for her family. Her two daughters, Debra Fay Moersch and Pamela Kay Byrd Jarvis (Lynn), were at the heart of her world, and she cherished them above all else. Family was Lucy’s dearest treasure. She found immense joy in the presence of her grandchildren—Jennifer, Jonathan, Nikole, J Logan, David, and Sammantha—each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her great-grandchildren, Beaux, Carolina, and Wesley, were her pride as she watched new generations bloom. Lucy’s extended family brought her much happiness as well, and nieces and a nephew—Becky, Teresa, and Johnny—who will remember her with affection. Among her best friends from birth, Clyde Deal and Arlie Mast remained faithfully by her side.

Lucy held precious the memory of those who preceded her in death: her father, Walter Glenn Inzer; her mother, Ella Mae Whedbee; her much-loved husband, John Byrd, whom she described as her everything; her sister, Lois Fuller; her brothers, Howard Earl Inzer, Willford L. Inzer, George Inzer, and Ulysses G. Inzer; and dear friend, Armin Chapman.

A dedicated professional, Lucy was a Weight Watchers leader for thirty-five years. She was deeply appreciative of all the people who made her work so meaningful, believing that her role allowed her to encourage and uplift countless individuals along their own journeys. The relationships she formed during these years were a source of satisfaction and purpose.

Beyond her career, Lucy was a vibrant member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church. Her steadfast faith guided her actions; she found true fulfillment as a member of the choir, an active participant in her Sunday School class, and a regular helper with both the preschool class and tutoring efforts at the church. These contributions were especially dear to her heart, illustrating her generosity and commitment to nurturing others.

In quieter moments, Lucy enjoyed the simple beauty of nature. She loved to watch birds, finding peace and delight in their presence—a reflection of her gentle and attentive character.

The fabric of Lucy’s life was woven with love, service, and faith. She left behind a legacy characterized by dedication to her loved ones and her community, a legacy that will be treasured and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family and friends are invited to honor Lucy’s life and memory at East Taylorsville Baptist Church - Sanctuary, located at 644 1st Ave Dr SE, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Visitation will be held on September 8, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, immediately followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm. Rev. Kevin White will officiate. Inurnment will be with the family.
