Madge Fields Wilson Barnes, 92, passed away on August 29, 2026, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Iredell County. She was born on April 6, 1934, in Thomasville, North Carolina.
Madge was a devoted family woman, an educator, and a woman of faith. She earned her Master’s degree and went on to serve as a teacher at Thomasboro Elementary School, a calling that reflected her commitment to learning and to the lives of those she taught. She also found joy in painting on canvas and in going to the mountains, pursuits that brought beauty and peace to her life. Above all, she loved and cherished her family.
Her faith was an important part of her life. Madge was a member of Three Forks Baptist Church, where she loved her church and found special joy in singing in the choir. Her church family and her faith were lasting sources of comfort and meaning to her.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel Barnes (Stephanie) and Brian Barnes; by her grandchildren, Jaycee Barnes and Jordan Barnes; and by her niece, Ann Jones. She leaves behind a family who were deeply loved and who will carry forward her memory with gratitude and affection.
Madge was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Barnes; her father, Rutherford “Bob” Wilson; her mother, Virginia McCarn Wilson; her stepdaughter, Lisa B. Smith; and her brother, Robert “Bobby” Wilson.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, North Carolina 28681. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00 am at Three Forks Baptist Church, 4685 3 Forks Church Road, Taylorsville, North Carolina 28681. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina 28208. Dr. Carson Moseley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Three Forks Baptist Church, 4685 3 Forks Church Road, Taylorsville, North Carolina 28681.
Madge will be remembered for her gentle devotion to her family, her dedication as a teacher, her love of worship and song, and the warmth she shared with those around her. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will remain treasured by all who knew and loved her.
