Margaret Lorene Wike Walker

July 15, 1940 — November 17, 2024

Margaret Lorene Wike Swink Walker, age 84, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Valley Nursing Center in Alexander County. Born on Monday, July 15, 1940, in Iredell County, Margaret was a devoted family member and an extraordinary woman whose memory will forever be cherished by those knew and loved her.

Margaret had an immense love for her family, dedicating herself tirelessly to ensuring their happiness and well-being. She was a source of strength and comfort, always putting the needs of her loved ones above her own. Her children, Gary L. Lovin (Linda), Ronnie D. Lovin, Michael W. Swink (Rachel), Debby S. Taylor, and her beloved brother, Rickey D. Crawford (Connie), can attest to the selflessness and warmth she infused into every aspect of their lives. Her grandchildren, Ricky Lovin (Sunny), Jennifer Elmore (Mark), Jerry L. Lovin (Amanda), Christopher Swink, Sarah E. Swink, Nathaniel Swink, Heather D. Swink (Steven Sumpter), and Jonathan R. Swink, along with her nine great-grandchildren, an aunt by blood but sister at heart Geraldine Johnson, were a constant source of joy for her, and she reveled in each moment spent with them.

A proud member of Hiddenite Baptist Church, Margaret found a sense of belonging and purpose within her congregation, embodying the values of faith, compassion, and community. She enjoyed engaging in simple pleasures throughout her life, including reading, flower gardening, bird watching, and baking. These cherished hobbies not only brought her joy but also became a means through which she connected with her family, often sharing the fruits of her labor over gatherings and special occasions.

Margaret lost several loved ones throughout her life who no doubt shaped her into the person she became. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sanford Coles and Rachel Munday Wike; her spouses: Austin Lovin, Roy A. Swink, and Rev. Coy A. Walker; her grandson, Brandon Wayne Swink; and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Greene. Each of these individuals held a special place in her heart, and she continued to carry their memories with her until the end.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm at Hiddenite Baptist Church, located at 250 Hiddenite Church Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alexander Hospice, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.

Margaret’s legacy of love, compassion, and selfless devotion will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
