Marjorie Payne Roberson, age 90, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with her children by her side at Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospice House. Marjorie was born to the late T. Wayne Payne and Edna Mabel Martin Payne in Alexander County. Marjorie returned to Taylorsville, NC with her husband in 1996, after living in Asheboro, NC for 34 years.

She was a very active long-time member of Dogwood Acres Presbyterian Church in Asheboro. After returning to Taylorsville, she became a member and Elder at New Salem Presbyterian Church in Stony Point. Marjorie was an alumna of Appalachian State University before deciding to marry the love of her life and move to Houston, Texas. She lived there for four years before returning to Taylorsville with her husband and first born. She moved to Asheboro in 1962 when her husband begin working for the Community College System. While in Asheboro, Marjorie worked for the Randolph Public Library for several years learning the library under Charlesana Fox. She was a member of the Junior Women’s Club and a grade mother for her children during their elementary education. She also worked at the Community Living Service, for several years teaching the adult mentally handicapped. She loved to sew, read, work puzzles, cook, and being with family. She worked with her husband at their apple orchard in Taylorsville for many years and enjoyed the Fall Festival in Asheboro and the Apple Festival in Taylorsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Dr. John L. Roberson, and her brother, William Gale Payne (Alice Ann).

Majorie is survived by her sons, Michael Roberson of Taylorsville, Todd Roberson (Daphne) of High Point, Joey Roberson (Reagina) of Asheboro, and daughter Jamie Griffin (Patrick) of Taylorsville. She is also survived by four grandchildren, John, Steven, Cortland, and Khloe, two step-grandchildren, Christina and Kathryn, two step-great-grandchildren, Dallas and Brazen, sister, Beth Dagenhart (Steve), nieces, Sherry Owenby (John), Debbie Payne, Lisa Hefner (Allen), Chondra Trimnal, Heather Finney (Thomas), nephew, Patrick Dagenhart (Katie), and several great-nieces and nephews.

Receiving of friends will be held at New Salem Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, August 29, 2026, at New Salem Presbyterian Church at 4:00 pm.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Rainey Ratchford and Rev. Patrick Dagenhart will officiate.

The family would like to thank Doris Tedder, Joanne Loudermilk, and Carolina Caring Hospice House for their loving care of their mother.
