Mary Jane Johnson Clendenin

Mary Jane Johnson Clendenin, age 57, born June 5, 1968, in Alexander County, North Carolina, passed away on March 19, 2026, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Catawba County. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness and caring spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Mary dedicated much of her professional life to working as a cosmetologist, where she found joy and passion in doing hair. Her love for beautifying others was matched only by her deep affection for her family. She cherished every moment spent with her daughters, Lydia Lord (Eric) and Anna Weaver (Joseph), and her granddaughter Ariel Lord. The bond she shared with her mother before she passed, who was also her best friend, was a cornerstone of her life, reflecting the warmth and devotion that defined her character.

Beyond her family, Mary was a woman of gentle compassion and warmth, known for her kindness, her joyful nature, and her strong faith and devotion to God. She enjoyed music and had a special love for the mountains, where she often found peace and inspiration.

Including her daughters and granddaughter, Mary is survived by her brothers John Johnson, David Johnson, Paul Johnson, Edward Johnson (Kim), and Luke Johnson (Sarah Lynn Kielman), as well as her sisters Jennifer Johnson (Janos Kollar), Carol Dornan (Gregory), Becky Carter (Joe), Judy Millsaps (Jeffery), and Lisa Jones (Del). She was also the cherished aunt of several nieces and nephews and was deeply loved by her beloved aunt, Cleo Boling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell Andrew Johnson, Jr. and Doris Elmore Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery located at 671 Marvin Church Ct, Stony Point, NC 28678. Pastor Todd McCullough will officiate.

Mary’s legacy is one of love, care, and devotion. Her memory will endure in the hearts of those she so deeply loved and who loved her in return.
