Mary Louise “Wheezie” Baney Young, a beloved educator and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home in Catawba County on January 11, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on November 21, 1944, in Davidson County, Mary Louise’s life was an inspiring journey marked by her unwavering faith in God, devotion to teaching, community service, and her family.
With a distinguished career that spanned over 40 years, Mrs. Young touched the lives of countless students as she taught in Davidson, Alexander, and Catawba counties. She dedicated her expertise and passion for education to Reeds Elementary, Taylorsville Elementary, Hiddenite Elementary, and Hickory Christian Academy. Her love for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as she nurtured the hearts and minds of those around her, fostering a love for learning.
A woman of deep faith, Mary Louise was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. There, she poured her heart into various ministries, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School to senior adults, and supporting the Bethlehem Food Pantry. Her commitment to serving the Lord and her community was evident in everything she did, and her beautiful voice resonated with all who had the pleasure of hearing her sing.
Wheezie loved and cherished her family with a passion that knew no bounds. She shared a wonderful marriage of 60 years with her husband, Joe Young. Together, they created a loving environment filled with joy and laughter. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Marlowe (Tim), her son, Josh Young (Julia), and her beloved grandchildren, Courtney Marlowe, Will Marlowe (Sierra), and a number of special friends who knew her kindness and warmth.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church, located at 7500 North Carolina 127 in the Township of Taylorsville, NC. The funeral service will be Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Bethlehem Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Dean Chambers will officiate.
