Melvin Walker,

Melvin Elmo Walker Jr, age 51, of Taylorsville, completed his journey to God’s kingdom on July 23rd, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.  Born on March 30th, 1959 to parents Melvin E. Sr. and Beatrice Rainey Walker in Columbus, GA; He was a proud and honor member of Oxford Baptist Church, and a dedicated employee of Duke Energy for 25 years.  He was a loving, proud, and dedicated husband of Peggy Winkler Walker, and the father of Melvin E. Walker III (Trey), and Nikole Yue-Dean Walker (Niki) who will love and miss him forever.  Mel is also survived by 3 sisters: June Honeycutt & husband Jim; Debbie Parker & husband Mike; and Amy Walker.  2 nieces, 2 nephews, 3 grand nieces and 2 grand nephews; as well as several loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Also, his father & mother-in-law, Willard & Ruby Cline; and his brother and sister-in-law, Larry & Yvonne Winkler.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gateway international Missions Inc. at: Po Box 667, Taylorsville, 28681 (or) at www.gatewayinternationalmission.com .  Visitation will be on Sunday, July 25th from 6:30-8:30 P.M. at Alexander Funeral Service.  Service will follow on Monday, July 26th at Oxford Baptist Church in Conover at 4:00 P.M. where Pastors Stan Frye and Joel Frye will officiate.  (The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior.)  Burial will follow at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church.   Alexander Funeral Service is caring for the Walker family.
