Myrtle Lillian Carroll Ingle, age 97, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at her home in Alexander County. Born on March 6, 1929, in Yancey County, Myrtle’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and warmth that radiated from her heart to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Myrtle was a woman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them. Her hands were never still - she enjoyed sewing, tending her garden, canning vegetables harvested from her own patch, crocheting delicate patterns, and nurturing flowers that blossomed with vibrant colors reflective of her gentle spirit. These hobbies were more than pastimes; they were expressions of her love and care for those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Henson Carroll, husband, John "Haywood" Ingle, daughters, Carolyn Rutherford and Loretta Kerley, siblings, Edna Aylor, Frances Briggs, Predith Bradshaw, Lillie Briggs, Mary Lou Carroll, Grayson Carroll, Lee Carroll, Robert Lee Carroll, Dewey Carroll, Crawford Carroll, and Will Carroll.
Myrtle’s legacy lives on through her daughters who survive her: Cathy Childers (William) and Rita Stansell (David), whose lives she touched profoundly. Myrtle’s heart was full with the presence of her eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren who were a source of immense pride and joy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who also carry her memory forward.
The family will gather to honor Myrtle’s life and legacy with a visitation on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Both events will be held at Alexander Funeral Service, located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls. Rev. Paul Schronce will officiate. Jonathan Childers, Jesse Childers, David Stansell, Tyler Jones, Andrew Jones, and Tim Jones will serve as pallbearers.
The family will accept flowers.
Myrtle’s spirit—a blend of nurturing love and quiet strength—will forever remain an enduring inspiration to all who knew her. Her legacy is one of grace, care, and unwavering devotion to family that will continue to soften hearts and inspire acts of love for generations to come.
