Nai Liem Saetern

June 22, 1933 — September 10, 2024

Nai Liem Saetern's journey began on June 22, 1933, in Ban Nampa, Laos. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on the evening of September 10, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Saeng Liem Tingh Saelee and Cheng Chiem Saelee, as well as her older sister and brother, and two younger brothers.

In 1951, she met her soulmate, Chiem lan Saetern, and together they built a life full of love and laughter. They were blessed with three sons: Pao lan, Naiian, and Seng lan. The couple's journey led them from Laos to the refugee camp in Thailand, then to the United States in 1980. After briefly settling in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, for about six months, they moved to Eugene, Oregon, where they lived for three years before relocating and settling in Sacramento, California, in 1984 where they established a thriving strawberry farm for over 14 years. They decided to retire from farming and returned to a quieter country life, moving from the bustling city to Taylorsville, North Carolina, in the summer of 1998.

Nai Liem's passion for farming and gardening was evident in every aspect of her life. Her hands seasoned by years of working the soil, also nurtured a deep love for raising chickens and tending to her garden. She found joy in the simple pleasures of country life, and her bountiful garden was a testament to her dedication and love for the land.

Nai Liem was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, often extolling the virtues and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her pride in her family knew no bounds, and she never missed an opportunity to share her admiration for each one of them. Her kind heart, positive spirit, and unwavering support made her a beloved figure among all who knew her. Beyond her immediate family, Nai Liem also cherished her nieces and nephews with deep affection. No matter how close or far away they lived, or how infrequent their interactions, she always found a way to stay connected, sending heartfelt messages through family and friends, making phone calls, and celebrating their achievements. Her boundless love and dedication to her extended family were a testament to her nurturing nature and made her an enduring presence in their lives.

Though she rarely left the casino a winner, Nai Liem's frequent visits to the casino were a source of great joy. She embraced every experience with a smile, and her enjoyment of the slot machines was a delightful testament to her zest for life.

Nai Liem's legacy is one of love, joy, kindness, and boundless generosity. She touched the lives of many with her gentle spirit, her enduring faith in her family and the Lord, and her ability to find joy in the smallest of things. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Following Chiem lan's passing in January 2022, Nai Liem moved back to California to live with her eldest granddaughter, Tina, and grandson-in-law, Sonny Vang. Her presence was a beacon of warmth and kindness, and her family was her greatest treasure. Nai Liem is survived by her three sons, four daughters-in-law. Her legacy includes eight granddaughters, seven grandsons, four granddaughters-in-law, three grandsons-in-law, twelve great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, one great-granddaughter-in-law, and two great-great-granddaughters.

Nai Liem's body will be transported back to Taylorsville, North Carolina, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Chiem Ian Saetern. The family finds comfort in knowing she will be reunited with him in their eternal resting place.
