Peggy Benfield Pennell, age 72, born on August 16, 1953, and passed away peacefully at her home on January 3, 2026, after an extended illness. She was a dedicated mail carrier, having retired from the United States Postal Service, where she fostered many connections within her community.
Peggy was a beloved member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Taylorsville, North Carolina, where she was very active and contributed significantly to its vibrant community life. Her faith was an integral part of her identity, guiding her interactions and fostering relationships with many.
Peggy's loving nature was evident in her devotion to her family, especially her grandkids. She cherished every moment spent attending their ball games and relished the joy of cooking for her loved ones. Her personality shone brightly in these moments, reflecting her caring spirit and commitment to family connection.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Tim Pennell, with whom she shared fifty wonderful years of marriage. Peggy is survived by her daughters, Tara Pennell Geiger and her husband Robby, and Brooke Pennell Trepal and her husband Shaun. Her legacy continues to flourish through her grandchildren—Layla Geiger, Jacob Trepal, Leah Trepal, and Landon Geiger—who will carry her warmth in their hearts. Also mourning her loss are her sister, Carol Benfield Crouch, her aunt Reta White, and a number of nieces and nephews who were fortunate enough to have known her love and kindness.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, John Benfield and Helen Caldwell Benfield, as well as her sisters, Della Mae Jackson and Linda Benfield Crouch.
A visitation in her honor will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on Tuesday January 6, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Rev. Chance Kuzma, Rev. Mark Morris, and Rev. Mike Johnson will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Trevor Kirby, Trent Kirby, Zachary Pennell, Nicholas Pennell, Jeff Crouch, Jimmie White, Randy Pennell, Tom Bell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her community spirit, and her joyful heart. Peggy’s legacy will live on in the cherished memories of all who knew and loved her.
