Raymond Foy Harrington

February 7, 1939 — October 20, 2025

Raymond Foy Harrington, age 86, a cherished member of his family and community, went home to be with Jesus on October 20, 2025, in Smithfield, NC after a period of declining health. Born on February 7, 1939, in Alexander County, Raymond's life was marked by devotion to his family, a passion for farming, and a love of the open road.

Raymond was the proud husband of Gaynell W. Harrington for an impressive 65 years. Together, they built a loving home filled with joy and laughter. He is survived by his beloved children; Allan Harrington, who is married to Kari and resides in Bolivia, NC; Vickie H. Hall, joined by her husband Brad in Raleigh, NC; and Jill H. Davis, alongside her husband Brian from Wendell, NC. He cherished his role as a father and took great pride in watching his family grow. In addition to his children, Raymond is survived by his siblings, Harold Harrington, Wanda H. Prichard, and Selena H. Harrington, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Jason Cope (Beth), Brandon Harrington (Chelsey), Seth Harrington (Brooke), Aaron Davis (Shelby), Ben Davis, Bryson Hall, Brody Hall, Sophia Hall, Hannah Harrington, and Wesley Harrington. His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren, Gavin Harrington, Milo Harrington, Ashton Harrington, and Alexandria Cope. In later years, Raymond and Gaynell were lovingly and patiently cared for by Phyllis Nellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Flake and Mary Harrington, and his sister, Loretta H. Robinson.

Raymond traveled extensively throughout the continental United States in his 40+ year truck driving career and in retirement with the love of his life, Gaynell. He was also a part-time farmer, well-known in Alexander and Iredell Counties selling his apples and peaches at the local farmer's markets.

Raymond was a dedicated member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church where he was previously active as a children's Sunday School teacher, a choir member, and the community outreach leader for the Auditorium Sunday School Class. His spirit was that of a giving and fun-loving individual, who enjoyed various hobbies, including fishing—particularly saltwater fishing at Holden Beach—water skiing, roller skating, and playing with his grandchildren.

A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm at East Taylorsville Baptist Church Sanctuary in Taylorsville, NC. The funeral service will be Thursday, October 23, 2025, at East Taylorsville Baptist Church Sanctuary at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Rev. Brian Davis, Rev.
