Rev. John Calvin Rowe

The Reverend John Calvin Rowe, age 81, passed away at his home in Alexander County on Saturday, June 22, 2024. He was born on Thursday, May 20, 1943, in Alexander County to the late James Calvin Rowe and Vertie Octavia Carlton Rowe.

Throughout his life, Reverend Rowe dedicated himself to serving others. In 1999, he became an ordained minister and went on to serve as a pastor in the Yadkin Valley Association. His compassionate nature led him to work as a missionary and officer on the Presby Board, where he touched countless lives with his kindness and wisdom.

Reverend Rowe's impact extended beyond his professional life. He was known for his love of hunting, fishing, cars, mentoring and fellowship with others. His dedication to Thankful Baptist Church for 13 years and St. John Baptist Church reflected his deep faith and commitment to his community.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Priscilla Johnson Rowe, whom he shared a lifetime of memories and devotion. He will be deeply missed by his children: Gloria LaDonna Bryant (Tony) of Jonesville, Casidy Sanders (Lee) of Leland, John Paul Rowe of Taylorsville, and daughter-in-law, Brandy of Taylorsville. Reverend Rowe's legacy lives on through his 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who will always remember his warmth and guidance.

In addition to his immediate family, Reverend Rowe is survived by his brother Rev. Charles Edward Rowe of Hendersonville; sisters Mildred Ferguson, Naomi Rowe, Jeanette Suddith, Margaret Rowe; special friend Jack Parsons, and hunting buddy Jerry Teague; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who cherished him dearly.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Rev. William Nathaniel Rowe and James Partee Rowe; sisters Ola "Sue" Grinton, Lucy Little, Mary Saner, Mary Lou Rowe; as well as aunt Myrtle Rowe.

 A visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service to honor Reverend John Calvin Rowe will be at St John Baptist Church on Thursday, June 27, 2024, 2:00 pm. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the St. John Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Eugene Martin and Rev. James Ferguson will officiate.

Reverend John Calvin Rowe will be remembered for his unwavering faith, generous spirit, and dedication to others. His memory will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Carolina Caring, granddaughters, Tashia and Shalonda, and daughters, Casidy and Gloria for their care of Reverend Rowe.

The family encourages those attending the visitation and funeral to wear a mask.
