Rhea Jean Smith Corley, age 87, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at the Valley Nursing Center. Born on October 28, 1938, in West Virginia, Rhea’s life was enriched by her love for reading and her gentle appreciation of the natural world, particularly enjoying the serene beauty of watching birds. She held a special affection for Florida, a place that brought her much joy.
Rhea was the cherished daughter of the late Basil Smith and Hazel Burnette Smith. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Garnet Vickers, and her brothers, Norman and Richard Watson. Despite these losses, her spirit remained strong and loving throughout her life.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Lynn Powell and her spouse Stacy, as well as her treasured granddaughter, Courtney Powell. Their love and support were a source of great comfort to Rhea in her later years.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Stony Point Baptist Church.
Rhea Jean Smith Corley’s quiet strength, curiosity, and deep care for her family and surroundings will be remembered by those who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her family and the simple pleasures she so deeply appreciated.
