Thelma Caroline Carson Johnson, born on May 5, 1931, and a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 30, 2025. Throughout her life, Thelma exemplified warmth and kindness, enriching the lives of those around her.
A devoted mother, she is survived by her cherished children, Connie Johnson, Margaret Suarez (Albert), and Matthew Johnson (Kathy). Thelma’s legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren: Stacy Flint, Zachary Hoffman, Fanci Ingram (Reed), Heidi Cvitanovich (Gerry), Casey Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Angie Walker (Shannon), Laura Lynch (Jacob), Joshua Jackson, Jessica Suarez, Laz Suarez, Justa Fox (Alex), and Jessie Houser (Timmy). She took immense joy in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, doting on her great-grandchildren, including Indie Hoffman, Jesse, Jacob Hoffman, Maya, Caroline, Kacie, Drago Cvitanovich, Cynthia Johnson, Tyler Warren (Shea), Hailey Walker, Dondre Johnson, Tagan Little, Phoenix Lynch, Manny, Kenia Sendra, J.J. Jackson, Juniper Suarez, Ava, Aubrey Fox, Madison, Clay, Brent Oxentine, Hadleigh, Holden, Hudson, and Hollyn Houser, as well as her great-great-grandchildren Greyson, Aurora, and Gio Sendra.
Thelma cherished her family deeply and found joy in creating special memories, especially through her fancy tea parties with her grandchildren. Her home was a place of love and laughter, always welcoming family and friends alike. Beyond family gatherings, she immersed herself in hobbies that filled her heart; she enjoyed reading, working in her yard with her many flowers and trees, doing puzzles, engaging in crafts, mastering macrame, and working alongside her husband in the tobacco fields until his death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Everett Carson and Pearl Artimessy Hubbard, her beloved husband of 32 years, Jim Johnson, as well as her beloved sons, Jimmy and Brent Johnson. Thelma mourned the loss of her granddaughter, Jessica Amanda Johnson, her grandson, Nick Johnson, and her great-grandson, Aaron Johnson. She is also predeceased by her infant brother Mayford Carson, and her brothers Glen Carson, Earl Carson, John Carson, and Gene Carson. Thelma's sisters, Ella Donaldson, Wetty Reid, Elsie Pennell, Irene Clanton, Nora Cathryn Mills, Gladys Bowles, and a number of nieces and nephews also journeyed to the next life before her.

Thelma will be remembered not only for her devotion as a mother and grandmother but for the joyful spirit she brought into the lives of everyone she met. Her legacy of love will undoubtedly live on through the many lives she touched.
