Verna Mae McDevitt Cutshall, age 89, born on Monday, August 17, 1936, in Madison County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Catawba County. A dedicated member of Temple Hill Baptist Church, Verna cherished her faith and found joy in singing and listening to gospel music, reflections of her warm and vibrant spirit.
Verna's exemplary love for her family was evident in everything she did. She was a devoted mother to her children: Nancy Cutshall Lingerfelt (Reed), Stephen Cutshall (Mary), Edward Cutshall (Cathy), Kenneth Cutshall (Vickie), and Dean Cutshall (Debbie). Additionally, she was honored to be the beloved grandmother of 10 grandchildren, a proud great-grandmother to 23 great-grandchildren, and an adoring great-great-grandmother to seven great-great-grandchildren.
Verna's passion for life extended beyond her family; she enjoyed spending time in her garden, producing bountiful harvests that she loved to can. Her hobbies included getting out and going places, reflecting a dynamic personality that embraced every moment.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Sisrow Cutshall. She is now reunited with her sons Donnie Cutshall and Lonnie Cutshall, her great-grandson Logan Huffman, and her dear parents Shuford and Cindy Chandler McDevitt, along with a number of brothers and sisters.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Verna's life during the visitation on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Temple Hill Baptist Church, located at 4400 Temple Hill Church Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630. The funeral service will be on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Temple Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Darrell Hatchell and Rev. Hayes Carver will officiate. Eli Hawks, Trent Ostander, Brandon Adams, Cooper Cutshall, Willie Ervin, Shaun Haynes, and Wesley Cutshall will serve as pallbearers. Jamie Cutshall will be an honorary pallbearer.
The family will accept flowers, or you can make a donation to the hospice of your choice.
Verna will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her commitment to her faith, and her joy for life. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
